Organic vs non-organic produce
Organic versus non-organic produce The word "organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are designed to encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution. Farmers who grow organic produce and meat don't use conventional methods to fertilize, control weeds or prevent livestock disease. For example, rather than using chemical weed killers, organic farmers conduct sophisticated crop rotations and spread mulch or manure to keep weeds at bay. Here are some of the reasons why I feel organic is better; *Organic food has been proven to contain sometimes 2-3 times the nutrients that conventional produce has *Organic food has more taste *Due to no preservatives and additives organic food does not last as long as non-organic. But the upside is you buy an non-organic apple in the supermarket, that apple could have been picked 10 months ago, let me pose this question to you, what sort of life-force or nutrient benefit would that non-organic apple have? *To avoid the health risks that can be associated with eating food that has been genetically modified, has been treated with pesticides and does not use proper crop rotation. * Pesticides contain xeno-estrogens which can cause your own estrogen levels to go very high hence being estrogen dominant. The only downside I see is that it can cost a little bit more and the availability is sometimes a problem, having said that there are a lot of farmers markets around on the week-ends and ordering home delivered organic food on the internet is another alternative. |
